my regularly acrylic are one of the less structured techniques I use. I was self taught in acrylic so I paint by instinct most of the time.
Acrylics are all about layering so a painting can change 3 or more times before it is truly done to me.
I tend to used the more vivid colours in nature and enhance them a bit in my work.
My texture technique is a longer process.
I start with a pencil drawing, tweaking the shapes to where I would like there.
then i keep myself very committed to this design. Using pallet knives i apply Golden heavy gel for the texture.
this gel takes a day to dry.
once dry I apply a colour wash to bring out the texture. last step is adding a dash of colour.
Some paintings just need a little bling.
once and a while I add gold leaf to my acrylic paintings and my textured paintings.
A splash of gold for sun or water can make colours pop.
it is something I do not do a lot.
Playing in your imagination can create some of the most beautiful results. I've been a fan of stylized art for most of my life. though for a long time I was afraid it would be too much,
I have now started to explore the colours and patterns I see in nature. Colour choices for my paintings have always been a bit more bold/contemporary than traditional.
These colours are always what my eyes focused on, they are what I see. I usually have to force myself to bring out the more neutral tones.
